"What do you think e-Infrastructure is? How would you use it? What support for the research lifecycle is required? How can, or should, institutions respond to the challenges and opportunities presented by e-infrastructure?
This BOF is an important opportunity for the AHM community to adresss some of the key questions raised by the JISC Community Engagement projects (e-IUS, e-Uptake and ENGAGE) and consider the broader issues that have an impact on community engagement with research computing and e-Infrastructure in the UK, including awareness; training; and tools. We will also discuss some strategic questions, including whether e-infrastructure should be supporting the "grand challenges" and/or everyday research, and the relationship between the two; and questions of long term sustainability: would investment in sustainability be better used to tackle research grand challenges?
This BoF also complements the workshop on "Profiling UK e-Research:communities, impacts and policy" which looks at the methodology and process behind community engagement and understanding to establish the needs, quantify the requirements and remove the barriers to entry for the use of ICT in research.
All interested AHM attendees are welcome to attend this BOF session, including researchers from all disciplines, technologists, and resource providers. We hope to encourage greater community awareness and collaboration ultimately lead to ongoing community engagement between researchers, providers, developers, funders and policy makers.
